National Sports Campus, Abbotstown, Dublin 15 – Design & Build
The project consisted of the construction of a Multisport Pavillion Changing Room Building, Security Gate House, Carpark and Landscapng within the National Sports Campus site which is a 4,800m² site located in Abbotstown, Dublin 15 which also includes the National Aquatic Centre.
Multisport Pavilion – single storey building with a floor area of 524m² including changing rooms, administrative offices, kitchen, reception, ESB substation, switchgear room and mechanical plant room. Comprises of steel frame building with infill blockwork panels in fair faced finish internally. External wall and roof finishes are zinc standing seam cladding with sloped curtain walling overlooking playing fields. Roof cladding is curved in section and on plan, wall cladding is also curved on plan in areas close to building entrance.
Internally the building is heavily serviced with mechanical and electrical services, including heat recovery units with associated fresh air intake ductwork and extract ductwork. The majority of M&E services are fully exposed, with only suspended ceilings installed in public toilet areas. Walls to showers and toilets are tiled, all other walls are painted.
• Gate House – single storey building with a floor area of 28m² with similar construction throughout as the main Pavillion building.
• 4,200m² approx of car parking, internal access roads and footpaths with associated public lighting, cctv and landscaping.
As this was a live heavily populated site, we were required to strictly enforce all necessary measures to ensure that all machinery remained within the designated construction area at all times. In addition, strict controls were put in place to prevent any unauthorised access to the designated construction area. At unavoidable interfaces between non-construction personnel and construction traffic of any description.
Delivery coordination, site security and protection of falling materials were all particular risks associated with this contract.
External works included extensive floodlit paved car parking with macadam access roads, kerbing, landscaping, drainage & services. Services connected to existing outside site boundaries and public footpath.
Work at heights was also a particular risk on this project. To control work at height hazards scaffold was erected externally with internal safety netting installed to protect roofers during cladding of the roof.
