Lidl GB, as part of its continued expansion acquired the former Homebase site on London Road, East Grinstead appointing Adston UK Ltd as Principal Contractor to develop the site into a modern retail store to provide the local community with access to high-quality fresh food and a wide range of products.

Project Timeline

• Start Date: 24^th February 2025
• Practical Completion: 30^th October 2025
• Store Opening: 27^th November 2025 marking Lidl’s 1000^th store opened in the UK.

Challenges

The project required significant redevelopment of the site, including:

• Demolition of the existing Homebase structure
• Extensive groundworks to prepare the site
• Construction of a new Lidl Supermarket to their specifications
• Ensure local residents and businesses were not negatively impacted during the works

Solution Implemented

The build incorporated:

• Structural steel framing
• Blockwork roofing and cladding
• Car park development
• Full interior fit-out to Lidl standards

Outcome

The new Lidl East Grinstead store successfully opened on schedule, delivering a fresh shopping experience to the community. The project was completed thanks to the dedication of the Lidl and Adston UK Ltd project teams and our subcontractors.  During the works Adston UK Ltd kept local residents updated with progress and upcoming works and we were delighted to promote local charities.
